800 MWdc. That’s the remarkable size of the Mount Signal cluster in Calexico, California. Nextracker salutes our customers and project partners for completion and commercial operation of 328 MW Mount Signal 3 Solar Farm, one of three phases comprising the largest PV project in California and one of the biggest PV solar farms in the world. Completed ahead of schedule by Mortenson, the successful commercial operation was announced by developer 8minutenergy Renewables and Capital Dynamics.

Currently in full commercial operation, Mount Signal 1 and 3 generate a combined 1.29 billion kWh of affordable, clean energy for residents in fifteen southern California counties and 192,00 homes. That’s over a million people provided with solar power during the day time and over one thousand solar jobs created as a result of this project.

I had the pleasure to visit MS-3 this February and took the below photo of Mortenson’s Emily Raymond with Nextracker Construction Manager Miles Rodriguez, highlighting the First Solar modules mounted on our NX Horizon smart tracker. At one point, SunEdison had acquired rights to this plant and Mount Signal 2, and we were shipping material to the sites when their financing was lost, and company unfortunately went bankrupt.  It was great to see these fantastic projects brought back to life, and then be allowed the opportunity to recompete and win the tracker contracts.

I was very impressed by the high quality of this plant and lean construction activities that were employed. Congratulations to 8 minutenergy Renewables, Capital Dynamics, Southern California Edison and Mortenson, and thank you for the opportunity to be part of this momentous project!
